Warcraft 3: Reforged Issues Cause Blizzard to Offer Instant Refunds

Blizzard is offering expedited refund options for Warcraft 3: Reforged following fan uproar over some of the game missing features and controversial changes. 

There’s quite a lot to talk about here, but since we’re addressing some of this story in greater detail in our upcoming review of Warcraft 3, we’ll offer the expedited version of the story for a bit of context. 

Basically, Warcraft 3: Reforged is a remaster of the original game that suffers from a variety of issues. Along with complaints regarding the quality of the game’s visuals (original promotional videos for the game promised much better graphics), some fans feel that the remaster lacks options that should be present in an updated version of the game. More importantly, though, the remaster is not only missing features that were present in the original version of the game but Blizzard has essentially retroactively removed those features from the old version of the game that you were previously able to play via Battlenet. 

In response to these complaints, Blizzard is not only seemingly offering instant refunds for the game but they’ve released a lengthy statement concerning the state of the title. Along with clarification regarding which problems will be addressed and how (and which problems won’t be addressed), Blizzard states that they remain committed to supporting the remaster.

“We know this update doesn’t address all questions, but we’re committed to the development and support of this game,” says Blizzard. “We hope you’ll keep an eye out for this week’s patch and future updates and let us know what you think as we continue fine-tuning things. Until then, thank you as always for your support and passion for Warcraft III. We appreciate all your feedback and will continue to keep the Warcraft III community updated on everything we’re working on.”

As we said, there are a lot of individual things to break down here, but the gist of it is that Blizzard seemingly has yet another recent controversy on their hands, and their statement isn’t exactly easing concerns. The refunds are a nice gesture, but it seems that most fans would have rather had the remaster they felt they were owed. 

While the launch of WoW Classic, the reveal of Diablo IV, and the debut of a new Hearthstone mode have constituted big recent victories for Blizzard, things like this continue to lead people to wonder just what is going on at one of the world’s premier game studios.
