Everything on HBO Max: A Guide to the Movies and TV Shows of WarnerMedia’s Streaming Service
HBO Max is set to be the new streaming home for just about everything WarnerMedia has to offer. Here's a list of the movies, TV shows, and other content set for HBO Max.
The goal of any new streaming service worth its salt is consolidation. We’ve got a lot of major entertainment conglomerates now and each one of them needs a streaming home to consolidate its content on. With that in mind, WarnerMedia’s HBO Max is undoubtedly the biggest streaming release since Disney+ last year.
When AT&T acquired Time Warner and all its holdings in 2016, the newly-branded WarnerMedia subsidiary needed a place to house thousands of Warner movies, and other series, films, and documentaries from Warner-branded studios like CNN, TNT, TBS, The CW, Adult Swim, and much more. Enter HBO Max. Though HBO Max is named after Warner’s original premier streaming and cable entity in HBO, this is much more than just an “upgraded” version of HBO. HBO Max is the juggernaut WarnerMedia streaming service AT&T promised.
HBO Max will launch with well over 10,000 hours of content per HBO Max chief of content Kevin Reilly. Cataloguing and finding all the content will be hard, particularly as HBO Max is set to add more library titles and original series and movies in the coming months. We’re here to help you get a jump start on HBO Max streaming by gathering all the titles known to be available at launch. Below you can find (just about) everything HBO Max will have to offer, delineated by original series, original movies, and library content.
HBO Max Original Series
By the time 2020 wraps up (if this interminable year is even capable of ever ending), HBO Max expects to have 31 original series on its servers. When combined with existing HBO content available to HBO Max subscribers, this number jumps up to 69.
It can be tricky to determine just what exactly an HBO Max original series is. For while some shows were commissioned exclusively for HBO Max, others like Search Party and Doom Patrol began their lives on other Warner properties before moving over to the new streamer. For simplicity’s sake, here is every new and returning show coming to HBO Max.

HBO Max Library Series
The appeal of HBO Max goes far beyond what new shows they have to offer. Crucial to the streaming service’s mission is all the older library titles from Warner imprints for viewers to reconnect with some of their faves. The two crown jewels of this library titles are Friends (which Warner paid $425 million to poach from Netflix) and The Big Bang Theory (which Warner got for the paltry sum of $500 million).
In addition to those two comedy juggernauts, the following will be available on HBO Max at launch: Rick and Morty, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, The Alienist, Impractical Jokers, (the first four seasons), Robot Chicken, The O.C., and Pretty Little Liars. and more. All 24 seasons of South Park are set to arrive in June and new episodes of the show will arrive on HBO Max 24 hours after their original airing. Gossip Girl and The West Wing are expected to arrive in year one.
HBO Max is also keen to keep its Arrowverse CW shows on its streams, but most older titles have existing deals in place with Netflix. Batwoman is the first of many CW DC properties to make it to HBO Max. Ditto for the burgeoning Archie-verse. While Riverdale is sticking at Netflix for now, HBO Max will be adding Katy Keene and its CW-partner Nancy Drew.
HBO Max will be the streaming home to the first 11 seasons of Doctor Who (and will get the next three seasons as well).
HBO Max Library Movies
Believe it or not, but Warner Bros. has been making movies for quite a long time. And now just about all those movies will be a part of HBO Max’s extensive film library. HBO Max will ultimately contain over 18,000 movies, with some 2,000 movies set to be available within the first year.
New highlights include: The Hobbit trilogy, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Matrix trilogy, Lego movies, Joker, Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, Shazam, Aquaman, and every Batman and Superman movie for the last 40 years.
Classic titles include: The Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, Blood Diamond, Friday the 13th, Rebel Without a Cause, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Shining, Singin’ in the Rain, and 2001: A Space Odyssey.
All eight Harry Potter films are currently available to stream on HBO Max. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is on the service as well.
HBO Max has also gathered together several “collections” that it has divided up into sections on its service. These include a section devoted to the the films of Studio Ghibli, along with select classic movie selections from Warner Bros., TCM, and The Criterion Collection.
Here’s a list of what’s expected to be available at launch as compiled by Comicbook.com.

HBO Original Series
Given that HBO Max has “HBO” in its name, what would it be without some good-old fashioned HBO content? HBO Max will feature everything that HBO currently has like Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, Big Little Lies, and more. Sadly this means that those HBO library titles are no longer available to Amazon Prime users.
Some of the notable upcoming HBO series include (synopses provided by Warner):
– Perry Mason (June 21), the classic legal drama for a new generation, executive produced by Robert Downey, Jr.and Susan Downey, with Matthew Rhys in the title role.
– Lovecraft Country, a unique horror series based on a novel by Matt Ruff, written and executive produced by Misha Green, and executive produced by Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams.
– The Nevers, Joss Whedon’s new science fiction series starring Laura Donnelly.
– The Gilded Age, the opulent world of 1885 New York from “Downton Abbey’s” Julian Fellowes.
– The , a psychological thriller from David E. Kelley, directed by Susanne Bier starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant.
