This article contains spoilers for Bridgerton season 3 part 1.

Bridgerton season 3 part 1 on Netflix is devoted to Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) transitioning from friends who live across the street from each other to lovers, engaged to be married. The end of episode 4 contains the moment that fans who have read the novels remember the most: the carriage ride where Colin and Penelope make out and admit their romantic feelings.

These tweets from Penelope and Colin fans reveal why the hashtag for their relationship #Polin is continually trending.

Every detail of the carriage ride itself and the leadup to it has been dissected to the finest detail.

One fan even juxtaposed the quotes from the novel Romancing Mister Bridgerton with the show version of the first kiss scene and the carriage scene:

A lot of the appeal of Penelope and Colin’s relationship is because of the friends-to-lovers romance trope. It’s one of the most realistic scenarios for couples in real life to meet and a great source of romantic tension.

Penelope and Colin’s fans were also just as eager to see their relationship develop before the carriage ride cliffhanger.

There’s also tons of fandom love for Penelope and Colin’s actors Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton:

Penelope and Colin are the main characters of this season but there is also plenty of fandom love for the other relationships blooming, including season 2’s main couple Kate (Simone Ashley) and Anthony (Jonathan Bailey). On Twitter and other social platforms, the #Kanthony hashtag is just as active as #Polin.

Colin’s younger sister Francesca “Franny” Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) is bonding with John Stirling (Victor Alli), a man who is just as content as she is with quiet reflection and solitude. Francesca hasn’t had as much development in earlier seasons so there were plenty of folks waiting for her debut in the marriage
