Antlers: Trailer and Release Date for Guillermo del Toro Produced Horror Film

Antlers will showcase an intriguing spin on horror film conventions, mixing the old “a boy and his monster” fantasy trope of Pete’s Dragon and Where the Wild Things Are with a voraciously deadly deer twist.   

Guillermo del Toro serves as a producer for Antlers; a duty that, a few years back, saw him appoint Black Mass director Scott Cooper, who worked off a script that he co-wrote with C. Henry Chaisson and Nick Antosca (of The Act, Channel Zero and Hannibal), adapting Antosca’s short story, The Quiet Boy. David Goyer and J. Miles Dale also serve as producers.

Keri Russell and Jesse Plemons headline here, joined by Jeremy T. Thomas, who plays a small-town kid with the most problematic secret buddy ever.

Antlers Release Date

Antlers was expected to lock horns at theaters on April 17, 2020. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is currently delayed indefinitely.

As the official Antlers synopsis reads:

In ANTLERS, a small-town Oregon teacher (Keri Russell) and her brother (Jesse Plemons), the local sheriff, discover that a young student (Jeremy T. Thomas) is harboring a dangerous secret with frightening consequences.

Antlers Cast

Keri Russell will come into the film off an appearance in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as the dual-pistol-wielding masked mystery character, Zorii Bliss. She just fielded a six-season co-starring run – opposite her eventual IRL partner Matthew Rhys – on FX’s Cold War spy drama, The Americans, and, in the past five years, appeared in films such as The Free State of Jones and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Jesse Plemons recently appeared in Netflix’s De Niro/Pacino-headlined, Scorsese-directed feature, The Irishman (you can read our review here), and fielded a TV role reprisal as sanguine sociopath Todd for the streaming giant in the feature-length El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. He was also recently seen in films Vice and Game Night, and fielded a TV run on CBS All Access comedy No Activity, which also features his Black Mirror: USS Callister co-star, Cristin Milioti.

Child actor Jeremy T. Thomas (The Righteous Gemstones) is also joined in the cast by Graham Greene (Goliath), Scott Haze (Venom), Rory Cochrane (White Boy Rick) and Amy Madigan (Field of Dreams).

Director Scott Cooper most recently helmed the 2017 American Civil War drama, Hostiles, which arrived after his work on 2015’s Black Mass, in which Johnny Depp played nationally-notorious criminal-turned informant, Whitey Bulger. He also directed 2013 Christian Bale-headlined drama Out of the Furnace, and made an impact with his feature debut, the 2009 Jeff Bridges-headlined country music drama, Crazy Heart.
