24, then. A show that's struggled to recapture the majesty of its last great season - which was number five - for the past couple of years. A show that faces an eighth and probably final season with a plotline that seems more akin to the narrative that started the whole show off (an assassination attempt building up over 24 hours). And a show that's never been afraid to bring back former characters when it needs to.

Okay then. Charles Logan is coming back for season 8. It's true, and it might be a slightly desperate move on the part of the producers, but for my money, Logan is the single best supporting character that the show has generated since Sherry Palmer. He was slimy, brilliant and the main reason why season five is perhaps the best that 24 has seen. And according to The Ausiello Files at Entertainment Weekly, we can expect to see him return for several episodes towards the end of season eight, when President Taylor needs his help.

We've already had Logan return once, as he was unconvincingly shoehorned back into season six and left nearly dead. But it's 24, so it would matter not whether he was dead or not, to be fair. We wouldn't rule out David Palmer stepping out of the shower next.

Here's hoping that Logan - played by the marvellous Gregory Itzin - gets a storyline befitting his genius...
