Flash Forward boss leaves the show
Simon Brew
Flash Forward’s co-showrunner, Marc Guggenheim, leaves the show, leaving David Goyer solely in charge…
Published on Oct 22, 2009
After a promising start. ABC's Flash Forward has suffered a decline in the ratings, and certainly from our own reviews, we're intrigued to see whether it can actually stretch its premise to a full season run. Our early thoughts are that it seems to be having some difficulty doing so.
With that in mind, is that the reason (the narrative and ratings issues, not our review) why ABC has just shuffled personnel behind the scenes of the show? The show's co-showrunner, Marc Guggenheim, has departed the programme for reasons that haven't been explained, and that puts Flash Forward firmly under the stewardship of David Goyer. He will now be running things alone.
One of his first jobs will be to put together the necessary storylines to fill out the back nine episode order that ABC has recently made. Flash Forward was originally commissioned, as is the norm, for a 13 episode first season, with an option of a further nine. And ABC has taken up that option, meaning it's a full 22-episode maiden season of Flash Forward that we're getting.
This leads even more to questions over how paper thin the premise is going to have to be spread, but Goyer's capable enough of resolving a challenge like that.
