Doctor Who: Pics of Tom Baker recording Hornet's Nest
Martin Anderson
...and he's looking as delightfully barking as ever.
If Tom Baker is your Doctor (he is most certainly mine), then this is your year, as the dottiest Doc in the program's history returns to the role of the time-lord after the best part of thirty years absent from the role.
Baker is recording Hornet's Nest, a five-part adventure series for BBC audiobooks. The first part, entitled The Stuff Of Nightmares, is released on September 3rd, with one extra tale a month until December, when the final two episodes will be released simultaneously...
The summary for the adventure reads thus in the press release:
Responding to an advert apparently worded for him alone, Captain Mike Yates (retired) is reunited with a ghost from the past. But why has the Doctor, that mysterious traveller in Time and Space, sent for his former UNIT acquaintance? Trapped by a horde of vicious creatures in an apparently innocuous English country cottage, the two old friends are on the brink of an enormous adventure. As the Doctor relates his recent escapades, it becomes clear to Mike that they – and the Earth at large – are facing an enemy of unimaginable power and horrific intent. The nightmare is only just beginning…
Sounds good. But then if the Doctor were meeting the Kandyman, even that would sound good. Tom Baker! Tom Baker!
From the 10th of August a dedicated web-page will provide extra pics of the recording, a Q&A with Baker and other material related to Hornet's Nest. All the episodes will be available both on CD and as a download. Here's the full release schedule, in case you missed it before...

2. The Dead Shoes – 8th October
3. The Circus of Doom – 5th November
