General Zod lands in Smallville

Simon Brew

Brit Callum Blue will be bringing General Zod to Smallville’s ninth season….

Published on Jun 25, 2009

As was revealed at the end of its eight season, Smallville will be adding a new character to its cast when it returns. And the season nine villain will be none other than General Zod.

Now for those of us who hold Superman II close to our hearts - and there are many of us - General Zod is, of course, intrinsically tied to the marvellous Terence Stamp. You have to respect the challenge facing Callum Blue, then, who will be taking on the role of the General for Smallville's ninth season run.

Blue, who is best known for appearing in The Tudors, and Secret Diary Of A Call Girl (he also appeared in Dead Like Me), hails from London, and will be seen as Zod when the show returns later this year. It's set to start screening from Friday 25th September.

And just so you can see what Callum Blue has to live up to...

Mmm doesn't excite as Smallville has already dealt with Zod. I reckon the show should concentrate more on Lois & Clark & the Daily Planet this season & hey lets face it, the show is now in its 9th season, no one expected it ti run that long. Maybe its time they renegotiated the rights & were able to use Superman???

surely it shouldnt be called smallville anymore. cant they just change the title and have the show be about superman already? mind you, its is a soap, so it'll probably last for a million years.

Don't get me wrong - I do find Smallville's monster of the week concept quite entertaining but how on earth has it lasted 9 series when so many other great shows have fallen so early by the wayside? It's interesting casting - will definately put a new spin on Zod. Smallville needed a new baddie after bumping off Lex who was an interesting character. I'll be watching with interest.
