Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: formally axed, creator of show bids farewell

Simon Brew

Fox has nixed any hope of the new Terminator film saving Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Josh Friedman writes a farewell note to fans…

Published on May 19, 2009

Following on from our story yesterday about the death of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Fox has now smacked the final nail into the coffin with the announcement of its Fall TV line up in the States.

In a piece over at TVGuide.com, the president of Fox Entertainment, Kevin Reilly, is reported as also declaring that "no matter how well Christian Bale's Terminator Salvation theatrical release does, the TV series will not be baaaack".

And just to cap things off, the creator of the series, Josh Friedman, has posted a farewell blog post over at fox.com.

He writes:

"By now most of you have heard the news that T:SCC is cancelled. I received a call earlier today from Peter Roth at Warner Bros. and I appreciate both his personal and professional support throughout this show's life. I know a lot of you are angry about the cancellation and want to find a place to direct your anger and to that I say do yourself a favor and find a way to move past it. Every network wants a big fat hit, especially one with a brand name behind it, and Fox was/is no different. They supported the show, they supported my vision of the show, and they gave it plenty of time to find an audience."

"My only complaint about the T:SCC fans is that there aren't ten million of them," he notes.

You can read his full post here.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is that. We'd wager hard cash though that the show is still talked about in ten years time...

I can see this become a cult hit like Firefly.... I just think its a real shame that this has been canceled as it was one of the best written, acted and directed shows going at the moment. I can't help but feel angry at fox given the face that they have messed this around taking breaks for no apparent reason and putting it on a friday night when the casual fans who are really its target audience tend to be out doing other things.

I, too, am more than gutted that yet again an intelligent, though provoking and generally exciting tv series bites the proverbial dust. Being a fox franchise there's no hope of it being shopped around or picked up by another network, so i'll be raising a glass to Cameron and Catherine Wheeler and i'll catch up with John Connor come April...

totally gutted that one of the most intelligent, well written and acted tv shows in years has bitten the dust. and as for *** they have just killed dollhouse as well by slashing its budget keeping it in the friday night slot and paired it with 2 terrible half hour comedies. god if they thought the ratings were bad with tscc and even worse with prison break(under 3mil) then god help them now.

How about a DOG list of "Top Ten Reasons You Should Have Been Watching TSCC" by way of a tribute?

Superb 2nd series! Shame everything has to immediately have a huge audience. I'd introduced loads of my mates to it; they were surprised by it's depth & quality...

I never missed it. I watched it on HULU every week (or whatever schedule FOX thought up, anyway). I haven't watched any network television for months. I'm not alone. Should the execs be getting a message here?
