Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles officially axed

Simon Brew

There’s going to be no third season of The Sarah Connor Chronicles, as the Terminator is terminated...

Published on May 18, 2009

It's the news that fans of The Sarah Connor Chronicles have been silently fearing for some time, but sadly, confirmation has now come through. Fox has cancelled The Sarah Connor Chronicles, arguably the smartest and best science fiction TV show currently running.

The show had been in limbo since the end of its outstanding second season, having failed to garner the ratings success required, albeit hampered by some unwelcome Friday night scheduling in the end from Fox. Given, however, that Fox had already renewed Fringe and Dollhouse, it all but ended The Sarah Connor Chronicles' chances of a third season, and as such, according to the latest update at Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello Files, the axe has now firmly fallen.

It's not a surprising decision, but it is a massively disappointing one. Perhaps it was a long shot, but in the slipstream of the new, upcoming Terminator film, could that have given the series the audience shot in the arm it ultimately needed?

We'll never know, sadly...

I'll keep hoping until the Fox schedule is actually published and then Warner say that they aren't shopping it to another network.

Not a big loss, t'was a very ploddy series with generally un-interesting unlikeable charachters. Not sure why I lasted the full 2 seasons...

Oh dear. Seeing that Dollhouse had been recommissioned I was hoping this would be too. (I haven't seen Dollhouse but I'm thinking of the fact that it had poor viewing figures too.) Then again, that was the second Terminator series, and Dollhouse had just completed their first. A shame. The ending episode, while posing new questions where theis could go, DOES work as a finale though, John Connor being where he needs to be, etc. We don't have complete resolution, but I don't think we ever would. I'd have preferred the story not to be left there though, there's more answers I'd prefer. Still, there are always comics and novels...

How about a spin-off? Terminator: The Cameron Chronicles. Seriously though, it is a pity, but with so many filler episodes in the 2nd series, it's not surprising.

I feel like the kiss of death for any series, Firefly, Jericho, Black Donnelly's, and Terminator. Whats up with that ? How does Dancing With the Stars thrive and anything that requires a little thought die?

I love Joss Whedon. I have enjoyed Dollhouse. But there is no freaking way that Dollhouse is better than TSCC. The main reason Fox have renewed Dollhouse is because they got such a massive PR black eye from cancelling Firefly that they are terrified of annoying the fans again. Unfortunately they have missed the point that the outrage from cancelling Firefly was because it was an extremely intelligent well made show, like TSCC is now. Once again they have made a decision not based on the quality but on myopic market research.

This is just wrong. This was one of the good shows that Fox had. They are now putting Fringe up against Grey's Anatomy, CSI and The Office. They bring on these Sci-Fi shows gather an audience and then pull the rug out from underneath us. I am done with Fox Sci-Fi. I was hoping that The CW would pick this up. FU Fox.

I'm not suprised it's going-it plodded along for season 2-far too many slow episodes for my liking-I tried watching it but got fed up with characters appearing from the future, flashbacks/forwards to future events. Missing an episode and not being able to record it or use the catch-up facility on Vigin Media meant you lost track in the end-simply put I gave up...
