Spider-Man 4 casting news

Could John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway be about to join the cast of Spider-Man 4?

Published on Dec 9, 2009

With the film set to go before the cameras early next year, the casting speculation for Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 has been going into overdrive. We already had debunked the idea that Rachel McAdams would be lining up to play The Black Cat, but now we're finally getting some idea who may be fighting Tobey Maguire's webslinger.

Name one is John Malkovich, whose finest villainous role for us will always be as Cyrus The Virus in Con Air, no matter what else he does with his career. Malkovich is being linked with the role of The Vulture, according to Movieline, a man who can fly and attack people with his wings.

Meanwhile, there's Anne Hathaway, who is being linked with the role of Felicia Hardy. Comic book fans will know that Hardy turns into The Black Cat, but that may not be happening with the film. Instead, it seems the intention is to turn her into a new villain called The Vulturess.

None of this has been officially confirmed at this stage, but sooner or later, one of these stories is going to strike gold. And the idea of Mr Malkovich at least is an enticing one. We'll see how it pans out, although the Felicia Hardy idea doesn't quite tally with Raimi's preferred idea of keeping things within the world of the comic book. Nonetheless, expect news soon....

Not a fan of Vulture. Would much prefer a Kraven storyline.

If this is true, it sounds horrible.

If it is Black Cat vs Vulture with Spidey caught in the middle, that could work. Make it a super-powered heist caper. Spidey 5 could Kraven vs Silver Sable on the hunt for Spidey! After Spidey's emo musical number in 3 I wouldn't necessarily bank on Raimi's good taste. NO VULTURESS!!

my hunch is still on raimi building a bunch of villains who are going to team up for revenge on Spidey for the 6th movie, Maybe with the return of the green goblin or a version of Hobgoblin. The Sinister Six would be classic spidey and a marketers wet dream! Can you tell the eighties were my spidey era?

Not a vulture fan either. God, I'd take scorpion over him, and he's a bit rubbish. JUST BITE THE BLOODY BULLET AND HAVE LIZARD AND KRAVEN! I hate kraven, but the lizard character is just way too worth it. I'm just scared about "Comic book fans will know that Hardy turns into The Black Cat, but that may not be happening with the film. Instead, it seems the intention is to turn her into a new villain called The Vulturess." WHAT? You can't do that!

I think a cat fighting a bird sounds like fun.

I will say it again ... Danny Trejo for Kraven!

If true, my interest in Spiderman 4 just up and died.

You automatically preclude yourself from credibly judging anything ever again, by mentioning "Con Air" and "Cyrus the Fucking Virus" in anything closely resembling a positive light.

Oh come on. Cyrus the Virus is a brilliant character and Con Air one of the best action flicks of the 90s.

I want the Lizard! They set this up two movies ago and now they're doing nothing with it! At the very least give us Bruce Campbell as Mysterio! Maybe...just maybe Black Cat vs Vulture could work well. But Vulturess? A definite NO.
