Zombieland 2 coming, set to be in 3D?

Simon Brew

A sequel to Zombieland looks like it’s on the cards, with the original cast and director all set to return. Good, good…

Published on Nov 25, 2009

One of the most gleefully entertaining films of the year has surely been the horror-comedy Zombieland, a movie that not only proved to be something of a hit, but one that also gave Woody Harrelson his best movie role in years.

There had been some doubt about a sequel to the film, with it, at one point, getting pulled into a debate about movie piracy. But it seems that somewhere along the lines, common sense has prevailed. As such, Moviehole has discovered that, not only is Sony very keen to move forward with a sequel, but that the film's cast - Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin and Emma Stone - are also primed and ready to return. Original director Ruben Fleischer is up for it, too.

The film, the site reports, is a couple of years off, and Fleischer also plans to make it in 3D. To be honest, he could make it standing in a pot of yoghurt for all we care, as long we get a Zombieland 2 out of it at the end.

He will be turning his attention to a different project before he does the Zombieland sequel, however. So our guess is we're looking at somewhere around 2012 before we see it.

Here's the Moviehole story.

I loved Zombieland, I just hope the characters arent ridiculously stupid for the last 15 minutes like they are in the first. Not actually my favourite zombie film of the year - that goes to The Revenant (hopefully that will get the wide release because its one of the best zombie films in years. The bastard-child of Shaun of the Dead and Pineapple Express).

I don't know if a sequel is such a good idea. The fact that most of humanity is actually dead and there is no hope will kind of become obvious, because they've already used the 'utopia' idea of a place without zombies with the theme park at the end of the first. So... it was great, but what kind of story will they tell for the second? Relationship issues? Or hopelessness? Either way has been done before, and I don't want this awesome movie to become a soap opera set in zombieworld.

I hope its just another Zombie road movie, but one where they die at the end....

I'm not sure if I want a sequel. The film seemed to say everything that really needed to be said. A continuation might somehow cheapen that…but it could also be even better. I'll give it a shot though considering the first was so very brilliant!

Who the hell were running the rides at the amusement park at the end. Were there some nice zombies that still felt enough sense of responsability to their employer that they continued to man their positions?
