Angelina Jolie takes centre stage as Salt, in a promising looking action thriller…
Published on Nov 6, 2009
Salt looks like it might be half-decent, on the basis of this trailer. It sees Angelina Jolie returning to the action genre post-Wanted and Mr & Mrs Smith, and it seems that she's been having a good, hard look at the Bourne movies while she was biding her time. As such, she takes the title role of Evelyn Salt, who is accused - in this trailer, as it happens - of being a Russian spy. But is she? Because if she is, she doesn't seem to know a whole lot about it.
The thing about Salt that particularly intrigues is that it's directed by Phillip Noyce. For this writer anyway, Noyce's Clear & Present Danger was one of the most intelligent, downright enjoyable action thrillers of the 1990s, and it's the idea of him returning to the genre that's got us particularly excited.
The film itself isn't due out until 23rd July in the US and 20th August in the UK, but in a busy summer, it might be one to keep an eye out for. Is it just us that hopes for a big blockbuster like this though where the ending is that the star is actually the villain of the piece at the end? Given that they'll be looking for sequels to this, we'd imagine, we'd fall off our chairs if that turned out to be the case here.
Here's the trailer...
