If you had any doubt that Guy Ritchie's take on Sherlock Holmes was playing things with action and comedy firmly in line, then let this trailer allay any remaining doubts.

We've still absolutely no idea just how well all of this is going to hang together, but the other thing that the trailer makes perfectly clear is that Robert Downey Jr is a major, major asset to the film. His delivery and screen presence is quite brilliant, and understandably, it's he who the vast majority of this trailer focuses on. In fact, you'd think that Rachel McAdams rather than Jude Law is his co-star on the basis of this.

We'd already decided that we're seeing this primarily for Mr Downey Jr, but it's going to be interesting too to see how Guy Ritchie gets on with a major Hollywood blockbuster to direct. The answers are coming: the film is out in the US on Christmas Day and the UK on Boxing Day.
