9 trailer
Gaye Birch
The animated short goes feature length. Have a peek at the trailer and see what A-list voices and big backing brings to the plight of the burlap-skinned stitchpunks....

Directed by Shane Acker, 9 is a feature-length adaptation of his Oscar-nominated 2005 short animation given a major motion picture outing, surely buoyed in part on the strength and interest of producers on board including Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Night Watch, Day Watch and Wanted) and bolstered further by the voice acting skills of Christopher Plummer, Crispin Glover, Jennifer Connelly, John C. Reilly, Martin Landau, and Elijah Wood as the main character, namely, #9.
9 is a story of rag doll against the machine as a small group of cloth creations, called stitchpunks, are inspired to rise up amid their post-apocolyptic, unpeopled surroundings and fight their metal foes before they get the stuffing well and truly knocked out of them.
We like the look of the trailer a lot and are oddly happy to report that events stay pasted to their world on the screen and there's not a single pointy finger or metal arm coming at you in 3D.
We hope the expanded, voiced story lives up to the fine visuals, extended runtime and talent behind the production. It's nice to see a smaller scale success get the big screen treatment and we'll trust that Team Tim-Timur et al kept the inspired intrigue and appeal of the 10+ minute short.
Have a look at the trailer and we all can judge full-length for ourselves soon, but this writer will be head of the queue come October. Because you never can have too many cute sack-y boys - or girls, as far as I'm concerned.
9 is released on 9 September 2009 in the US and 30 October 2009 in the UK.
