Paul W. S. Anderson tackling 3D 'Musketeers'

Don't sit too near the screen, those things'll have your eye out...

Genre director Paul W.S. Anderson is switching from horror and action to period drama with a 3D adaptation of The Three Musketeers.

Having read Alexander Dumas' original, I find it a bit upsetting that anyone is trying once again to make a movie out of this truly epic and hilarious book, which only TV really has the scope for (though it lacks the money).

I haven't counted the previous versions, but Twitch reckons that Anderson's take on d'Artagnan's journeyman adventures will be the 22nd.

The problem with making Musketeers into a two hour movie is that all the stuff in the book which explains how much fun d'Artagnan, Athos, Porthos and Aramis have, and why they are such good mates, hardly ever makes the script due to the huge press of plot-points that have to be covered.

Arguably Richard Lester took the best approach in the 1970s by splitting the book into two movies under the aegis of the Salkinds, who later did as much for Superman.

Certainly all those pokey swords are going to look extra-pokey in 3D, anyway, if you really care.

Wonder if Milla Jovovich will be Milady?

Wow, so we as your humble audience, your loyal subjects, will be treated to a reboot AND in 3D AND only 21 previous versions? We're truly not worthy of your generosity, mr. Anderson!! No really, what have we done to deserve this???

I think it will take much more than 3D to distract the viewers from the rubbish thatPaul W.S. Anderson is most likely to make of this classic story. Can not the relatives of Alexander Dumas have him stopped?

I actually saw the Richard Lester movies at the theater back in the 70s as a child. Prior to Star Wars, they were my favorite movies back then. To me, the two films Lester did were the best versions - they had the action, the humor, a terrific cast, and Raquel Welch gave me my first manly stirrings as a young boy...(mmm, cleavage). But anyway, Paul W.S. Anderson is a freaking hack and there's no way this will be good.
