Been mulling over this for the past hour or so and I've come to the conclusion... that it's quite a poor teaser. It reminds me of the Star Wars prequel teasers that looked great on the big screen but not so on a monitor. Looks a lot like a cartoon towards the end and ultimately includes a bunch of effects I feel I've seen before in other trailers. Disappointing

"Looks like a video game..." I spent the watching the trailer wondering where I plugged my controller in and what character I was supposed to control.

dissapointing to say the least.. easy to spot the difference between real footage and cgi.. and i'm not just talking about "those blue things can't be real!".. even short glimpses of cgi-worthington looks plastic and emotionless.. like a video-game.

Damn you TJN 1! You got me. But still, I agree trailer looked a bit weak. Too much CGI. to cartoony, although still though we have to consider what it will look like in 3d. The humans and their technology looked very cool. Although, I still dont understand something. Why does he need an avatar? Is it because hes a cripple? Why an alien? Is it to trick them? Is this guy supposed to go in like undercover? I cant deny my curiosity, but i am a bit deflated after watching the trailer.

I'm so very sorry... it got me as well, if it's any consolation. and did make me laugh like a drain for sheer 'gotcha!!'-ness.

This looks amazing! Don't know what teaser you naysayers are watching. "It looks too cartoony" "The CGI looks fake" Go watch a Ray Harryhausen film dummys and continue to gripe about "them damn kids and their high-fangled, new age, computer gimmickry!" I'm sure dinner is served at 4PM for you guys with bedtime soon to follow.

Well, I was going to make the effort to see it on IMAX but after seeing that trailer I really don't think I can be arsed.

Sorry cress, but movies have moved on a lot since the the days of Ray Harryhousen, expectations are a lot higher now than they once were... The blurb I have seen so far about Avatar led me to believe this was going to be a decent hard scifi movie and instead what i saw where lots of flashy CGI effects that looked like a game / cartoon, and not much really to make me think this is going to be a decent scifi movie...

Cordas, your response says it all. What type of "decent hard scifi movie" were you expecting? Do you have a comparison? Do you really think James Cameron is interested in creating a cartoony, video-game movie, given his body of work? Sure, a lot of his films have been mined by studios and others in other realms. But his main goal is to put out a decent, good film with his vision.

I was expecting something that looked real, rather than something that looked cartoony / obviously cgi...

Yeah ... for something that isn't out for another few months it's shit shame that it only took a few minutes for trailer to make it look already dated !!! Dude this movie better not suck balls :-(

Am I the only one, even after seeing this trailer, that has absolutely no interest in this film...?

I think it'll be the best CGI ever seen, but by saying "best ever seen", I mean it'll be likely around 2% to 3% better than anything seen in Peter J's Lord of the Rings films or even some of the Harry Potter effects... I am hoping that Cameron pulls at least a few tricks in the film like he did in T2, where he has certain scenes where every edit is either a makeup effect, an animatronic, or a CGI...I get the feeling we wont be seeing this, though- I think we have gotten, at this point, to the limits of CGI...I really dont think CGI rendered film effects are going to get better than this... I truly think that DIGITAL REMOVAL is going to be the next big advancement in CGI...meaning having a technician controlled creature (a.k.a. the Alien Queen, the Terminator endoskeleton, etc) and have that be controlled by technicians just as always, but use CGI to REMOVE the technicians... I am not sure why it is "easier" to create an entire CGI world than to have a real on-set creature effect, and then just remove any wires, tracks, etc used to move it...I feel that THIS IS THE NEXT step for CGI. Avatar looks really incredible, but..I guess, only a couple of percentage points more incredible than some of the other CGI effects we've seen in the past few years. It does represent the high point of CGI, and some of the scenes look really beautiful, but bottom line- CGI use in sic-fi/fantasy cinema, as-is, is reaching it's limits
