It's a film that's had a bit of a troubled journey to get this far, with original director Stephen Chow bailing on the project, and then rumours earlier this year - fiercely debunked by writer/star Seth Rogen - that the whole production had been put into turnaround.

Yet the path to bringing a big screen adaptation of The Green Hornet to life seems to be clearing, with a firm release date seemingly in place of July 9th 2010, and Rogen's script - co-written once more with Superbad collaborator Evan Goldberg - firmly in place.

Michael Gondry is the director of the project, and with the shoot of the film set to commence shortly, it was expected that if things were pressing ahead, we'd get some casting news shortly. And according to Entertainment Weekly, the part of the female lead in the film has now been offered to Cameron Diaz.

Diaz doesn't have a major track record in comic book movies, save for making her big screen debut in some style in The Mask in the 1990s. The casting hasn't been confirmed or denied as of yet, but it's fair to say that Entertainment Weekly usually has its eye on the ball on such matters. Expect a confirmation shortly, and just maybe, for shooting to get cracking over the next few weeks.
