Inglourious Basterds: new poster, sequel and longer cut

Simon Brew

A new poster, sequel talk, and the length of the final cut of Inglourious Basterds, all in one value for money post...

Published on Jul 9, 2009

The build up to Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds continues, with the film now just over a month from its wide release. With that in mind, the latest poster for the film has just been unveiled, which you can see here. They're clearly having a lot of fun with these, and this latest poster premiered over at Yahoo! yesterday. The link to them is here.

Meanwhile, Harvey Weinstein, one of the film's executive producers, has been talking about the film, and has confirmed that he'd love to get a second film moving. "Brad wants to do Inglorious II. We all want to do it. And the movie hasn't even come out yet!" he told GQ.

On top of that, Eli Roth has been talking to MovieWeb about the film. The version that will be released is around five or six minutes longer than the cut of the film that premiered in Cannes earlier this year, said Roth. "Quentin always said that he wanted to do some cutting, and pruning, and that he was going to be changing things. There was a lot of stuff left out before. He felt that he had over cut," Roth told the site. That said, Tarantino himself has since confirmed that the version being released will be just one minute longer.

But back to Eli Roth. He also expanded on the fact that Tarantino had mapped out an Inglourious Basterds universe, with a prequel that has "most of it written". "He even has two sequels planned," Roth revealed, before noting that "From this interview, people will dissect fifteen different things, and they will decide that Quentin is already directing the next movie. That's not what I am saying. Quentin just has these characters so figured out that he has their whole lives mapped out, and there arcs thought through. Maybe he will write a script, maybe he won't. Just know that it's written in his head."

It's a terrific interview, and you can read the full piece here.

It would be nice if Quentin had spelt Inglorious correctly....it only has one "U". i hope he hasn't printed too many "One Sheets"...they might need a recall.

No-one knows why it's spelled this way. Maybe it's to seperate it from the Italian original it's a remake of, or maybe it's to stop light censorship. I'm sure Tarantino won't dissapoint. I've loved nearly everything he's done. And it's not as if he releases a move every year. This should be fun!

Am I the only person in the world who thinks that A/ Eli Roth is a talentless hack who seems to be Tarantino's Renfield, feasting off the insects in his room at the lunatic asylum and doing his evil bidding in interviews and B/ Inglorious Basterds just doesn't look very interesting?
