Alien: The remake?

Martin Anderson

Someone somewhere reckons they can do a better job of one of SF-horror's milestones... Yes, Alien

Published on May 28, 2009

Bloody Disgusting has broken the news, if true it be, that Sir Ridley Scott's groundbreaking SF-horror original Alien (1979) is heading for the remake treatment courtesy of commercials director Carl Rinch.

The plan is - according to the article and its mysterious source - that the film will recreate the one-ship/one-alien set-up of the Nostromo in the 1979 blockbuster; however the phrasing of that rather suggests that the film is not actually a direct re-tread of Alien, since Alien 3 could arguably answer the same description.

No negative energy from me towards Carl Rinsch - Scott himself had a cinematic background almost entirely in commercials before Alien, though his largely self-funded first feature The Duellists (1977) was what got him the attention of producers Giler and Hill. Rinsch directs commercials for Scott's Scott Free productions, and the remake is said to have the backing of the Scott brothers (not any kind of guarantee after their remake of The Andromeda Strain).

But. this. is. unnecessary.

While I dig a good remake this movie does not need to be remade. The original is done perfectly. This sounds like an attempt to reboot the Aliens franchise just like the Terminator series and Star Trek. I just hope it dosent end up being a big pile of suck.

If the remake sucks it will utterly ruin the brilliant original for new generations.

why? The original is golden and if they did remake it they'll probably make it a pg 13, so kids can watch it like terminator salvation. Which would not be a smart move.

i'm already refusing to watch it. when a movie is perfect, it doesn't need to remade

I've heard elsewhere it will be a prequel. If so, fair enough, there is still a lot we don't knwo about the creature, it's beginnings/home world and the 'space jockey' stuff. But I agree, no remake please.

If its a prequel it shouldn't have humans in it.... but it will, if it has humans in it they should all die.... but they won't :(

PMS @ sarcasm - o - mat :o)) If its a prequel then fair dos , lets see what they do with that to ruin the further history and buy back into the franchise... if its a remake arrghh.. am starting the 'refuse to watch' brigade right here and now... who wants a t-shirt?

HERECY! What next a Muscial version of Jaws with a singing shark? Fek me pink, is nothing sacred - some movies are re-makable, some should be simply left well alone and treated with the reverence they deserve. Saying that though, Alien has already been remade to some degree into several pale imitatitions, 1989's lamentable Leviathan comes to mind (sadly), and many more too legion in number to mention. How could they make a remake suspenseful at the end in the Narcissus, you would have the whole cinema screaming at the screen "Its in the shuttle with you ya stupid bitch, you aint got time to flash your crotch!" - it would turn into a cinematic panto!!! Simply stinks of Hollywood running out of ideas, so they re-do every cash cow in the stable that has had a previously good gross at the box office.
