One thing you have to give to George Lucas: his films sure know how to divide the audience. His Star Wars prequels still enjoy warmth in some quarters, and outright vitriol in others. And you can already see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull heading the same way. Personally, I thought it was okay, a solid three star action flick with the worst ending of the summer. But they just about got away with it.

Yet will they do so again? Because Harrison Ford has given an interview to the Los Angeles Times where he admits that “George is in think mode right now” about a further instalment in the Indiana Jones chronicles.

Not wishing to be disingenuous to the franchise’s leading man, if there is to be a fifth Indy film – as was the original plan in the 1980s – then it’s going to have to get cracking soon. Ford admits that a further sequel is a possibility. ““It’s automatic, really”, he’s quoted as saying. “We did well with the last one and with that having done well and been a positive experience, it’s not surprising that some people want to do it again.”

Of the fourth film, he says “"It was a calculated business risk but I believe it paid off. I was somewhat surprised and gratified to see it did the business that it did. It was successful in almost every market”.

In the same interview, Ford pours cold water on the idea of an animated Indiana Jones, arguing that he wouldn’t want to see Indy move away from the kind of movies they’ve been making. Hmmm.
