The UK Blu-ray release schedule: including Torchwood!

Simon Brew

The next few months for high definition fans will see the end of HD DVD, and a mixed bag of Blu-rays. Here's what's coming up...

With HD DVD being phased out over the coming months, the future for high definition discs - whether you like it or not - lies in the Blu-ray format. And as we were working our way through the release lists, we came across this little lot.

As usual, all details are subject to change….

24 March
The Condemned

31 March
Black Sheep
Hitman: Extreme Edition
Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

7 April
Enchanted
The 6th Day
The Adventures Of Baron Munchausen

14 April
St Trinian’s
30 Days Of Night
Alvin And The Fecking Chipmunks
Damages Season One
Welcome To The Jungle
Hidalgo

21 April
I Am Legend

28 April
The Golden Compass (for £30!)
The Day After Tomorrow
Master & Commander
Paranoid Park

5 May
First Knight
The Devil’s Own
Shrooms
Bonnie and Clyde 40th Anniversary

12 May
Aliens vs Predator – Requiem
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
Signs

19 May
Sweeney Todd
I, Robot

26 May
I’m A Cyborg
Lady Vengeance

2 June
Groundhog Day
In The Valley Of Elah

9 June
National Treasure Book Of Secrets
National Treasure
Dan In Real Life

16 June
The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe
Unbreakable
Strictly Ballroom (crying out for a hi-def version, that is…?!)

23 June
All The Boys Love Mandy Lane
The Proposition
A Tale Of Two Sisters

30 June
Torchwood Season One
Diary Of The Dead

16 July
Men In Black

There are a handful more that we've missed out for reasons of we can't understand why anyone in the world would be interested in owning them in high definition (we left Strictly Ballroom in as an example - a perfectly decent film, but hardly crying out for 1080p). We still see more filler than substance in the schedules, worryingly: much though we love Groundhog Day, it ain't the kind of film that high definition enthusiasts, surely, are crying out for.

Great to see Torchwood in there, though: does this pave the way for a high definition Doctor Who boxset at the end of the year, we wonder...
