New stuff on the way from Marvel
Sarah Dobbs
Marvel has just released a list of comic-based things that are in the pipeline - games, movies, live shows, and... musicals?
Is it me, or is this a bit exciting? Marvel has revealed its upcoming slate - here's what we've got to look forward to:
Movies:
Iron Man - May 2, 2008 release
The Incredible Hulk - June 13, 2008 release
Wolverine - Gavin Hood confirmed as director
Punisher 2 - Lexi Alexander confirmed as director, Ray Stevenson confirmed as the lead
Ant-Man - written by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, set to be directed by Edgar Wright
Captain America - David Self engaged to write
Nick Fury - Andrew Marlowe to write
Thor - Mark Protosevich to write
The Avengers - Zak Penn to write (great name!)
Straight-to-DVD animated movies:
Doctor Strange - August 14, 2007 release
Teen Avengers - aiming for a July 2008 release
Hulk Smash - aiming for an October 2008 release
Animated TV projects (or "cartoons", if you will):
Spider-Man - in development
Wolverine and the X-Men - 26, half hour episodes in development
Iron Man - 26 half hour episodes in development
Live Stage Projects:
Spider-Man the Musical - Julie Taymor will direct, and music and lyrics will be written by (cringe!) U2's Bono and The Edge
Games:
Iron Man - due 2008
The Incredible Hulk - also due 2008 (both movie tie-ins, then).
... is anyone else a bit bizarrely excited at the prospect of Ant-Man now?

Re: New stuff on the way from MarvelAny Man - yay ... ruining super villian picnics since the 1960s! Its amazing to see the growth of Joe Cornish career, from the superb Adam and Joe Show ( Baaad Dad, toys, Star Wars toy parodies, Ken Corder) to writing for Hollywood..nice one.
Re: New stuff on the way from MarvelI was excited for Ant-Man the moment you said Edgar Wright was involved. Now it has no choice but to be great.
Re: New stuff on the way from MarvelEdgar Wright and Joe Cornish. That just... it can't lose. Even if it's Ant Man. Actually, can't they just do Spider-Man from now on?
Re: New stuff on the way from MarvelI heard about Edgar Wright doing Ant-Man a while back and everytime someone mentions it, I still can't help but feel like SQUEE.

Re: New stuff on the way from Marvelurgh - I saw some of the production art from the Teen Avengers show, it looks (surprise) like teen titans but with all new manga-ized characters who are an Amalgam of current heroes such as a Thor-Girl and a Black Panther/Iron man bloke and a Hawkeye/Cap kid. I agree with Daniel a Young Avengers would have been a great cartoon, as would Runaways or even Power Pack.
Anty man Anty Man -- does whatever an Anty can...
Re: New stuff on the way from MarvelLets start the 'Get Nick Frost to be Ant Man' Campaign!
Re: New stuff on the way from Marvel*dead from LOLZ*
Re: New stuff on the way from MarvelIf there was a Runaways cartoon, they'd have to do it RIGHT. And make it follow the storyline of the comics. And make it more like a serial.

Re: New stuff on the way from MarvelIs it just me that is concerned about 'Thor'? Even when I was a kid the images of a guy that travels by a flying hammer seemed silly, but irrespective of how good the effects are I'm not sure how this could work. If I was a director who wanted the ultimate challenge, then this is the project I'd pick.
Re: New stuff on the way from MarvelAh...Matthew Vaughn...is the person who likes a challenge! He did a good job with Layer Cake, but I recall he backed out of X-Men 3, so his connection to Thor might not last.
Re: New stuff on the way from MarvelThor could be done well - and go in two directions with either a lord of the rings style fantasy film or a modern day Thor in New York type. There was rumours that Josh Holloway from Lost would be Thor ( or Gambit..) but I can see HHH from WWE being Thor as he seems to be doing the old 'King of Kings' stuff at the moment on RAW. Whoever they get to say the immortal words ' I say Thee Nay!' they have to get James Woods to be Loki |
