Rounding up the announcements from the recent Comic-Con, we start with news from Spider-man land...

With Comic-Con International well and truly in business over in San Diego, Marvel has been releasing a whole load of information about where the company is heading in 2008/9. One of the major announcements has been the new creative team on the company’s flagship Spider-Man titles.

After the Joe Quesada penned ‘One More Day’ story which will be hitting the shelves in the next few months, the books will be switching its creative team that will lead into a year and a half story entitled ‘Brand New Day’.

With the mammoth event it seems that the web-slinger will be in great hands as not one but four new writers take over the book, as well as four new artists. The first of the four new writers is fan favourite Dan Slott, whose work on this year’s Free Comic Book Day Spider-Man book impressed both fans and critics alike, and whose style is perfectly suited for the character.

It is not known if Dan Slott’s creative partner for this book Phil Jimenez will be once again be joining him for the ongoing series but it was indeed announced that Jimenez is one of the new artists to join the Spider-Man creative team along with fellow superstar artists Steve McNiven, Salvador Larroca, and Chris Bachalo.

The other writers of the book will be Zeb Wells, whose recent take on the New Warriors and Fantastic 4/Iron Man – Big In Japan, were some of the best mini series the company produced last year. Joining Wells and Slott will be Bob Gale, screenwriter of Back to the Future fame, and finally Wolverine and Flash writer Marc Guggenheim.

For a long-time Spider-fan like myself this is the best line up the character has had in many years and although recently the character has not been on top form creatively it looks like there is a lot to look forward to in the coming months.

Constantly deconstructing the character has taken its toll on me I'm afraid. I was quite enjoying the JMS story line until 'The Other' and then I started losing interest. And unmasking Spider-man during the Civil War story line has pretty much ruined the character for me.

Your right - Spiderman has gone downhill for about 5 years.. really since the 'Sins Past' nightmare ( nearly as bad as the clone saga that). A soft re-boot would probably be for the best, but I dont like Quesada insistance that Peter should be single, MJ is a great character.
