Doctor Who computer peripheral #2: Dalek Webcam!

Den Of Geek's Christmas wishlist continues, with a webcam that doubles up as a Dalek. Why can't we have a job thinking these things up?

Following on from the TARDIS USB hub that we’ve talked about already here, a further venture around the pages of www.thinkgeek.com, and a further prompting from our own Ron Hogan, unearthed another genius marriage of Doctor Who and computer peripheral. Ladies and gentlemen, the Dalek Webcam.

It’s clearly a product that the pictures alone can sell, but what we particularly like is that they’ve not gone for the easy option and put the camera in the Dalek’s eyepiece. Instead, it’s concealed into the body of the Doctor’s most villainous enemy. Or, as the ThinkGeek description puts it: Daleks have an eyestalk which they use to view the world. But baby Daleks aren't as lucky. They have eyes in their torso and are quite often captured from their nests and enslaved by larger lifeforms to be used as webcams. The Time Lords have always used Dalek Webcams to talk to each other over large distances of space and time. This could be one reason why the Daleks are always trying to destroy everything.

If we can’t get a job inventing these products, can they at least employ us to write descriptions? That job sounds genius…

The webcam is available on the ThinkGeek side in the States for $49 plus postage, although Mac drivers aren’t included. That’s not going to stop this writer getting the Visa card out this morning though. Not least because, er, he uses a PC….

I have all sorts of geeky bits and bobs around/on my computer. It makes perfect sense that my love of toys and my love of technology spawned this beautiful baby Dalek webcam.
